Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling

Date of Event: 3 - 7 Jan 2024

REGISTRATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

Let our tree-mendous team of volunteers take the hassle out of recycling your Christmas tree this year!

The Christmas Tree Collection scheme is run solely by an army of generous volunteers who give up their time to drive collection vans island-wide, man phone lines, and organise registrations.

In return for a donation, volunteers  will pick up trees from outside registered people’s homes in January and deliver them to the green waste team at La Collette for conversion to soil improver for local farms and gardens.

Register your tree

Please register your tree for collection by 14:00 on Tuesday 2 January 2024 if you are a business in St Helier and 08:00 on Thursday 4 January for households.

Collection dates

Christmas tree collections will happen on Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 January for businesses in St Helier, and Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 January for households (and businesses outside of St Helier.)

We will be in touch with those who have registered closer to the time, to confirm collection dates.

Volunteers needed

Jersey Hospice Care is also on the lookout for volunteers with vans to help collect Christmas trees from across the island and deliver them to the green waste recycling facilities. Volunteers can email fundraising@jerseyhospicecare.com for more info or to sign up.

When will the collections take place?

St Helier Business Collections will take place: Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th January 2024

Residential Collections will take place: Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th January 2024

When must I register my Tree by?

St Helier Business Collections: 2pm on Tuesday 2rd January 2024

Residential Collections: 8am on Thursday 4th January 2024

What time will you collect my Tree?

Due to the vast number of trees to be collected, we aren’t able to give you an exact time when we will collect your tree.

For St Helier Business collections our drivers start collecting early on Wednesday 3rd January. If possible, please leave your tree outside for collection with all decorations and tree stand removed.

For residential collections our drivers start collecting early in the morning so please leave your tree outside and ready Friday evening (5th January)

Where should I place my Tree?

Where possible, please leave your tree on your property, close to the road where it can be easily seen. If it cannot be left in view, please include information on where it is when you register, eg ‘Up the drive and through the gate.’

What is the minimum donation?

The aim of the collection is to raise as much money for Jersey Hospice Care as possible. The minimum donation is £10 per tree although we have included suggestion donation amounts on the registration form depending on the size of your tree.

What should I do If you don't collect my Tree?

Please don’t be concerned if we don’t collect your tree on the Saturday as we are collecting until late afternoon on the Sunday.

If your tree is still with you on Tuesday 9th January please let us know by filling out this form here  (Please note this form won't be accessible until the after the main tree collection has taken place.)

With respect, please do not call the main hospice number out of hours, as this will take our nurses away from caring for our patients and their families.

What happens to my tree?

It is taken away and shredded at the Green Waste site. It is then mixed with other vegetation and composted to make soil improver.

By recycling your tree, it also saves on waste.

What if i have more than one tree?

We ask the minimum donation plus and an extra £5 per tree.  When completing the registration form, please let us know how many trees we need to collect.
