Jersey Hospice Care launches new three-year strategy

Monday 14 Oct 2024

Jersey Hospice Care has launched its strategy for the next three years, setting out a clear and exciting direction for our island’s hospice.

Over the next three years, Hospice will particularly focus on extending its reach by developing existing and new services, including more to support those who wish to be cared for and die at home, and building upon our collaborative partnerships across healthcare and charity sectors.

Hospice’s vision is that anyone with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition – and those close to them – have equal access to the best palliative care and support, when and where they need it.

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Jersey Hospice Care said:

“We know that demand for our services will increase with an ageing population in Jersey. It’s essential islanders receive dignified, high quality, and individualised end of life care; and their loved ones are supported both before and after their death. Our new strategy will ensure we are best placed to meet this increasing demand, and that we are directly aligned with the island’s first Palliative and End of Life Care Strategy – which launched in October 2023.”

In the new future plan, Hospice identified five strategic priorities that will provide the roadmap for delivering its vision:

  1. Extending our reach across our community
  2. Creating a specialist centre for best practice and learning
  3. Enhancing islanders’ awareness and understanding about the work of Hospice
  4. Growing and developing our people to be the best they can be
  5. Achieving financial sustainability to enable us to develop the right services and provide for the future needs of islanders

Mike continues:

“Our new strategy creates a bold vision for the future of your Hospice. We must ensure all islanders needing support receive it, and they have choice and control on their end of life journey. We know we will face challenges along the way, especially financial – with rising costs on an almost daily basis; but we can look forward with optimism. We have an incredible and committed team of Hospice volunteers and colleagues, and we have a unique role in the lives of islanders.”
