Shop local, give local: Jersey Hospice Care in collaboration with three local makers

Friday 18 Oct 2024

Jersey Hospice Care is excited to be working with three amazing island makers to bring a selection of full priced gifts to our shop. Visitors to the Hospice shop in St Ouen can now buy beautifully created items from Abi Overland (illustrator), WILLOW Candles, and Lauren Radley (illustrator).

Marcus Meadows, Head of Retail at Jersey Hospice Care, said: “Many charity shops in the sector are selling full price merchandise to complement donated goods. What better way for us to embrace this approach, than a collaboration with some of the incredibly talented makers that we have here in Jersey! With 40% of every sale going directly to Hospice, this is also a great way to increase the revenue we generate from retail and help raise the vital funds needed to keep our services running.”

Shoppers at the charity shop can expect scented candles, ceramics, prints, cushions, and more from the three local businesses.

Abi Overland said: “I've been almost exclusively buying from charity shops for the majority of my adult life. It reduces waste, you get some unique gems, it's affordable, and best of all, the funds go to charity. The Hospice shops have always been my go-to charity shops. I was thrilled when they got in contact to have local businesses stock their products in their St. Ouen shop – it's great to be a part of something knowing it's going to charity.”

Vanessa Vowden, WILLOW Candles, said: “I was truly honoured to be asked to work with Jersey Hospice Care, having witnessed first-hand the incredible care and support they provide. I'm proud to contribute to raising money for such a worthy cause and to be part of their meaningful work.”

The new range of gifts perfectly complement the charity shop’s selection of Christmas decorations, games, gifts, and costumes generously donated by islanders, and the range of charity Christmas cards, lovingly designed by local artists, that are now on sale.
