We rely on the support of the community to enable us to continue caring for patients and to support their families and loved ones. It costs £16,500 a day to run our services. Your support makes a huge difference.

At Hospice, we’re committed to providing compassionate and inclusive care to all who need our services. A vital part of this mission is understanding and respecting the diverse faiths and beliefs of our patients and their families, especially as they approach the end of life. To support this - and in line with Interfaith Week (10-17 November) - we’re hosting a special series where representatives from various faiths visit the Hospice to engage with our team.
Every day, a different faith leader will come in to share insights and answer questions about their traditions, beliefs, and practices related to end of life care. This includes representatives from Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. The goal is to provide our colleagues with a comprehensive view of each faith’s perspective on death, dying, and afterlife beliefs, which can deeply impact our patients’ experiences and their loved ones’ comfort.
Understanding the religious beliefs of those we serve is essential in providing truly personalised and respectful care. Through these discussions, our team will gain insight into what matters most to patients of various faiths at the end of their lives. This will help us honour their wishes, ensure their dignity, and foster an atmosphere of respect and empathy.
The sessions will serve as a unique opportunity for our colleagues to ask questions and learn about rituals, customs, and spiritual needs from those who live by these beliefs. In the process, our team can more fully appreciate how religious and cultural backgrounds influence the decisions and priorities our patients may have regarding their care.
Through this initiative, we aim to deepen our understanding of diverse faiths and strengthen our capacity to deliver compassionate and informed care to all.
