As we enter the Year of the Dragon – bringing you luck and harmony – Jersey Hospice Care is excited to announce a bigger and better Dragon Boat Festival than ever before. Kindly supported by VG, this year, you will have not one, but two chances to participate in one of the most fun corporate or family days out and help raise funds for Hospice to care for those with life limiting illnesses.
The Jersey Dragon Boat Festival is back on Saturday 14 September 2024, but this year, teams can also try their luck in the Dragon Boat Tug of Oar at the Jersey Boat Show from Saturday 4 May to Monday 6 May 2024.
Instead of the 40ft dragon boats racing against each other, teams of six will sit face to face in one boat and attempt to row their half of the boat across the central line!
There will be Tug of Oar competitions on each of the Boat Show days with a total of 24 teams competing over the course of the weekend. Each day, eight teams will have the chance to battle it out in a best of three for the chance to progress to the final Tug of Oar – and become part of an exclusive group of Tug of Oar winners!
Scott Douglas, Events and Lotteries Officer at Jersey Hospice Care said:
“We wanted to give smaller teams the chance to compete in the Dragon Boats and this is such a great way to do that. This form of Dragon Boat competition interestingly started in Poland in 2015 as part of a National Dragon Boat festival there. We thought it looked like so much fun that we had to try it out!”
The entry fee for the Tug of Oar is £250 per team and with only a limited number of places, we expect this to sell out fast!
As part of the Lunar New Year celebrations, we are also offering a 10% discount on entries to the main event – the Jersey Dragon Boat Festival – on Saturday 14 September. This discount is available until 29 February.
